Julie Breuer // Markets & Clients
In our "Meet our experts" series we regularly feature our experts from all areas of the Delvag Group. In this interview, Julie Breuer, from the Aviation Markets & Clients team at Albatros, talks about the largest aviation insurance policy in Europe, the diverse tasks in her team and about what makes her work so special for her.
Julie, what does the Aviation Markets & Clients division actually do at Albatros?
As integral part of the Albatros Corporate Broker, we manage the interface between clients on the one hand and the insurance market on the other. Primarily, we do this for the Lufthansa Group and its airlines, but also for other clients in the aviation sector. A major focus is on the support of the Lufthansa Aviation Insurance Group, or LAIG for short. This Group Policy insures around 50 airlines, including the airlines of the Lufthansa Group, members of the Star Alliance and other partner airlines as part of a purchasing pool. This makes LAIG one of the largest aviation policies worldwide. Of course, our customer base includes not only the big players and major airlines in the market, but also, for example, their subsidiaries such as maintenance and repair companies, ground handling service providers or business jet operators, all of which offer services in the aviation sector.
Wow, that's a wide range. How would you describe your personal area of responsibility?
In our team, everyone has multiple roles. We are the central contact person for the customer and also place their policies. Thus, we accompany our clients on their entire journey through the insurance world. Starting with the negotiation of prices and conditions all the way to documentation and billing. In addition, we are also involved in traditional customer care and answer questions about coverage, conduct annual reviews or issue insurance certificates.
Some of us are also assigned to special topics, such as working on internal digitalisation projects. A current example is the conversion of our brokerage system to a new cloud-based software platform.
Let's come back to our customers. The link between airlines and the insurance for aviation risks is clear. What role do you play for the subsidiaries or even smaller companies?
A key role. Not only airlines need coverage for aviation risks, but all companies that manufacture aviation products or operate on airport premises, for example. These risks are often excluded from General Legal Liability or Motor Legal Liability policies. Here we offer special aviation products.
We are currently living in turbulent times. To what extent do events like the war in Ukraine influence Albatros as a broker?
In times of crisis, the true value and quality of a broker becomes apparent. Our huge and longstanding experience and the resulting contacts to the insurance market as a broker of one of the largest aviation programmes offer our clients added value in times of crisis. We can provide quick and competent information on topics such as the effects of sanctions on existing insurance cover. In addition, the war in Ukraine naturally also has an impact on the pricing and scope of cover of war policies, the conclusion of which is partly obligatory for the protagonists in the aviation industry. We therefore entered renewal negotiations for our clients at an early stage and inform them regularly about developments and anticipated changes.
What makes your work special for you?
I particularly like the fact that my work is very versatile. On the one hand, being there for the customers as an advisor, consulting and supporting them as a service provider in the best possible way with their concerns - and on the other hand, working with the insurers. Discussing current topics, negotiating contracts and networking to maintain our contacts and build new relationships. And all of this in an international environment where both our clients and our insurance partners are located around the globe.
Thanks for the chat.
